    Biography

    Déjà

Déjà is a singer/songwriter who has taken the UK underground music scene by storm. Déjà discovered his musical talents merely by chance, during a music class at school when he was 15. He was born in Colchester , Essex and started his musical career MC'ing in clubs in and around Essex. Déjà's early career as a UK Garage MC gave him a great insight to what was to become his world.
Whilst at college unable to find a platform to express his vocal ability, Déjà found himself surrounded by the sounds of Garage and fell into MC’ing whilst clashing and battling in the corridors at lunchtime. It didn’t take long for Déjà to gain a reputation and respect for being the one to beat.
During the early days of his career Déjà gained considerable experience whilst MC’ing on Pirate stations and made contact with artists such as Wiley, Dizzee Rascal, D Double E, Skepta, Tinchy Strider. This was birthplace and training ground of what was soon to become known as the UK Grime Scene.
Déjà continued to experiment with his music alongside studying at University. He hosted a number of successful music events and continued to MC across London. After leaving University Déjà landed a role as an Investment Banker and it was at this time that that Grime was being embraced by the UK mainstream. The UK charts were being dominated by artists of the same musical background as Déjà and with this in mind Déjà decided it was time to return to ‘pick up the mic’.
By this time his music incorporated sounds from a mash of genres such as Soul, Rock, R&B and Grime (a body of work that reflects this, Ain’t Got Me Nowhere, Been Around the World, Indestructible ) he was now ready to define his unique sound and take on the UK scene. Déjà taught himself to play the Guitar and as well having a unique vocal ability he discovered a talent for song writing.
Through an exchange on Twitter Déjà met Jake Gosling (Mark Ronson, Ed Sheeran, Wiley, HotChip) at The Movement and he began to develop a true identity for his music . This hook up secured Déjà's position as an Urban Soul Artist and it was at this time that his peers took notice. Since signing with BDi/The Movement Déjà has written with Amy Wadge , Pete Riley, Leddra Chapman, Adam Coltman, Aquasky & Black Noise, Mad Mo productions, Mo khan, Olympics 2012 music composer Norman Cheung, Jessica grace, Pepstar, Janiece Myers (Wiley), Spectrasoul.
Whilst co-writing hits Déjà has been busy gigging at venues across the UK the highlights include Shoreditch House, Oxjam , Flavour Live and Get Gassed. His sounds have been recognised by Radio One and he has had huge support from BBC introducing.
Déjà is now a respected Urban Artist who has supported headliners such as DJ EZ, PSG and B-Live, Ed Sheeran, Mz. Bratt and Dot Rotten, he’s warmed up stages for some of the biggest names in UK music and has big plans for the future. He has an exceptional vocal ability and is and is well-known for his stage presence and his live performances.
Déjà is currently enjoying the benefits of being a full time musician and he continues to write and perform on a daily basis. His unique sound and talent has made a lasting impression on the UK music scene and he will be around for a very long time. He has recently been named as ‘one to watch in 2012’ by Music Week Spotlight via BDi.
